Hymn Lyrics for Lord's Day 9 of the Heidelberg Catechism

Now I Call this God my Father

To the tune JESU, MEINES LEBENS LEBEN (http://www.lutheran-hymnal.com/german/agerman_tlh.html). Based on Lord’s Day 9 of the Heidelberg Catechism (related Westminster Shorter Catechism Q&A 8-9). Words: Bill Weber, 2010.

v. 1
God the Father of our Savior,
made the heavens and the earth.
Out of nothing did He make them,
testimony to His worth.
Spoke and worlds came into being,
grace and glory His revealing.

refrain
Praise the Father, praise the Son.
Praise to God the three in one.

v. 2
Far away from God the Father,
once I lived in death and sin.
Did not know God as my Father,
far away I lived from Him.
But in grace the Father drew me,
near to Jesus given for me.

refrain
Praise the Father, praise the Son.
Praise to God the three in one.

v. 3
Now I call this God my Father,
Jesus made a way to Him.
Now I know my true Creator,
Jesus rules all things with Him.
Trust Him as my loving Father,
Watching, caring, good provider.

refrain
Praise the Father, praise the Son.
Praise to God the three in one.

v. 4
Now I trust the Father so much,
do not doubt He will provide,
everything for soul and body,
turning all things for my life.
He is able, He is faithful
in a world so often baleful.

refrain
Praise the Father, praise the Son.
Praise to God the three in one.

Q &A 26

Q. What do you believe when you say,
"I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth"?

A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who out of nothing created heaven and earth
and everything in them,^1
who still upholds and rules them
by his eternal counsel and providence,^2
is my God and Father
because of Christ his Son.^3

I trust him so much that I do not doubt
he will provide
whatever I need
for body and soul,^4
and he will turn to my good
whatever adversity he sends me
in this sad world.^5

He is able to do this because he is almighty God;^6
he desires to do this because he is a faithful Father.^7
