Hymn Lyrics Based on John 4:1-26

The Bridegroom Came to Rest

To the tune: POTSDAM (http://www.hymnary.org/hymn/CCEH/1374). Based on John 4:1-26. Words: Bill Weber, 2011.

v. 1
The Bridegroom came to rest,
sat down near Jacob’s well.
A sinful woman met Him there,
a symbol of us all.

v. 2
Unclean we are through sin,
estranged and far from life.
In sin we’re born in sin we’ll die,
apart from Jesus Christ.

v. 3
We’ve drank from other wells,
false husbands left us dry,
for only God in human flesh,
our souls can satisfy.

v. 4
These idols we confess,
our folly we forsake.
Unite us, Jesus, to yourself,
Your Spirit to partake.

v. 5
O be our Husband, Lord,
and cleanse from guilt and sin,
and satisfy our souls with You,
give loyalty within.

v. 6
We offer unto God
our bodies and our lives,
and worship Jesus in the light
of His dear sacrifice.
