Hymn Lyrics Based on John 3:16-21

John 3:16-21:

16"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."

How Gracious the Mission of God’s Only Son

To the tune: FOUNDATION (http://www.hymnary.org/hymn/UMH/529). Based on John 3:16-21. Words: Bill Weber, 2011.

v. 1
How gracious the mission of God’s only Son,
was sent to a world that our sin had undone.
He came not to judge or condemn us to hell,
but came down from heaven to make our souls well.

v. 2
How blessed is the man who believes in God’s Son,
the Light of the world our salvation has won.
Whoever believes from his guilt he is free,
for He who is Judge suffered sin’s penalty.

v. 3
O what will you do with the Lord Jesus Christ?
O will you believe to receive lasting life?
For he who refuses to trust in His name,
in guilt, condemnation will ever remain.

v. 4
O this is the verdict on men of the world,
who live in the darkness and love not the Lord.
O they stand condemned and reject God’s dear Son,
away from His presence of light and of love.

v. 5
O come to the Savior and give Him His due,
and live in the light of the One who loved you.
Repenting, believing you’ll live in the light,
receiving forgiveness and knowing true life.
